Barbados is going through a bit of a creative shift right now with a new generation of artists stepping forward and making music that feels more intentional, more lyrical and full of substance. At the center of that movement is a name you’re going to keep hearing: Doejay.

Doejay is carving out a lane that feels both deeply personal and undeniably Caribbean. His music doesn’t just aim to entertain, it gives you a real window into his life. That’s exactly why he’s one of SESSIONS: Ones to Watch.

Redefining the Caribbean Sound

People clearly connect with Doejay’s sound. His debut album “Boys2Men” is currently the number one album in Barbados which speaks for itself. He’s also challenging expectations of what it sounds like to be a Caribbean artist. His music blends R&B and rap influences with Caribbean-style production in a way that feels extremely natural. His versatility isn’t accidental, it comes from treating music as an exploration. Because of that his delivery can move easily from melodic and reflective to rhythmic and high-energy.

“His music doesn’t just aim to entertain, it gives you a real window into his life.”

The Breakthrough and the Blueprint

His breakthrough moment came during Crop Over in 2025. Performing his collaborative hit “Bartender” with Quon and Harvey, he secured a People’s Monarch runner-up spot, the kind of visibility that can change an artist’s trajectory. For many that would be the peak but for Doejay it was just the beginning.

“Boyz2Men explores what it feels like to grow up as a young man and it feels less like an album and more like a journal. Each track pulls from a different part of his life touching on loss, love, spirituality and self-reflection. The project feels exceptionally honest and in many ways extremely relatable.

Higher Order: The Collective Vision

Behind Doejay is a team that understands vision. Higher Order is a creative collective made up of Nick Jr, Cappa, Kojo Jelani, Quon, Amir & Presi all focused on setting a new standard for Bajan music and creativity. From production to visuals everything is done with intention pushing beyond local expectations toward something that can compete on an international stage.

Grounded in Family

For all the momentum there is a strong sense of grounding in who he is and where he comes from. Raised by his grandmother after losing his mother at a young age, family plays a big role in both his life and his artistry. It even influences choices like keeping his music clean enough for his grandmother to listen to.

“He’s building something that’s his without trying to fit into a predefined lane.”

Doejay doesn’t feel like just another “up next” artist. He’s building something that’s his without trying to fit into a predefined lane. It reflects a wider shift in how Caribbean artists are evolving and taking more ownership of their sound.
